...................Terry Fox was one of Canada’s greatest role models. He was born to a middle class family on June 28, 1958 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His love for sports soon became his first hurdle in life. He had to work twice as hard as other kids if he wanted to be a successful competitor. For example, he loved basketball and he wanted to play guard, but he was only 5 feet tall. He practiced and eventually became one of the best guards in his league. Then in 1997, doctors diagnosed him with osteosarcoma which is a type of cancer that starts in the knee and works its way up in the muscles and tendons. This changed his life because the doctors had to amputate his leg just above his knee. He could no longer play sports, so he decided to run from coast to coast in order to raise money for cancer research. He created the Marathon of hope and after 14 months of training with a prosthetic leg, he set off across Canada on April 12, 1980. He ran for 143 days, 5,373 km, until the doctors told him his cancer had spread to his lungs and that he would die soon. He died on June 28, 1981 but his dream came true as he had raised $24.17 million dollars for cancer research. He is remembered today as Terry Fox runs are held worldwide to honor one of Canada’s greatest heroes.

He will be one of hero in Canada. I think the challenge has made by bad situation or misfortune. And it's the only way to become a hero.
I agree, but I think it's great that he overcame several challenges in life. Our children need role models like him, especially those who are ill or suffer from physical challenges. I do the run (but I walk) every year. They have it along the Hangang river. I was sad to learn that the 2009 run has been cancelled because Korean sponsors want publicity which is something that the foundation is against. Here's a link if you're interested in reading.

I did't know the name "Terry Fox" when I enjoyed running and interested in participating marathon race all the year. I remember there was a race called Terry Fox, but I did't know what the name means. Now I feel shame on me after read this article.
